Looking for something different to do this weekend but you just can’t find it? Maybe it because it’s hiding, hidden in the dark. Read on to shed a little light on some great eats and alternative edible happenings by the Thames, as D&D London celebrates the ‘Dark River’ for the Thames Festival 6th – 15th September 2013.

“The name of the river ‘Thames’ itself is said to “derive from the Sanskrit term for ‘dark’ and it has often been known as the dark river.” Peter Ackroyd CBE

This weekend head to the river for Butler’s Wharf Blackout; part of the Thames Festival celebration.

These riverside restaurants at Butler’s Wharf – Le Pont de La Tour, Cantina del Ponte, Blueprint Café and Butler’s Wharf Chophouse – will be flicking that switch and ‘blacking out’ electricity in all four restaurants from 8.30pm every evening throughout the dates of the festival. This will give diners rare river views, with less London light pollution. Visitors can revel in twinkling views of the Thames! Ah the romance….

With only a flicker of candle light, a whole calendar of one off events designed to spark our heightened senses will be available to enjoy: from late night drinking sessions to Blind Wine Tasting, to Ghost Bus Tours, to a Fire and Flambé night.

Echoing the central purpose of the Thames Festival, each of these sensory experiences will celebrate the history and beauty of the Thames, its ancient mystery and the changing modern landscape.

One of the highlights of the Blackout will be the ‘Blackout Banquet’, a pop-up 40 metre, 140 seat banqueting table running along side the riverbank, spanning from Butler’s Wharf Chophouse to Pont de La Tour, and ending at Cantina del Ponte. Diners will fabulously feast on a rotating menu of dishes from those restaurants.

Each restaurant will serve a different three course, fixed price special ‘Blackout Menu’ over the ten days.

Dining at the ‘Blackout Banquet’ table is priced from £35 per head for three courses. Reservations can be made via 0207 940 1833.

Throughout the blackout we can all dine from special set menus at:

La Pont de la tour from £30 for 3 courses/ Butlers Wharf Chop House from £ 25 for 3 courses/ Cantina Del Ponte from £25 for 3 courses/ Blueprint from £25 for 3 courses`
